Do I need Excel? No — the workbook opens in Google Sheets (free), LibreOffice (free) and Numbers too. CSV versions are included as a fallback for anything else.

Do I need to know spreadsheets? No. You type into the grey cells; the green cells calculate themselves. Every sheet has an example row showing how.
